====== My thoughts ====== Here is what I think about what I see in this world. ===== Youtube and Co [en] ===== Video on Internet via those big sites are just bad. I mean video you watch are often provided at a speed that doesn't allow a "clean" viewing. The server are most of the time overloaded and cannot respond quickly enough. Then the viewer, in Flash, is not good. I often have to fight with it, because my computer is a good old pentium, without multi-core stuff. I tell you, the flash player just waste you're processor time and you can't do anything else. Finally I came to the point that a video I wanted to see wasn't available because I wasn't in the good country. From which country am I browsing the web ? Just plain stupid. As often when money is involved ... ===== Characters limitations [en] ===== I see more and more website ("Web 2.0") having a limitation on how long you're message should be. So please stop. The web is not mobile communication (SMS). We spent lot of times complaining about SMS language in forum by the past and now the shiny new Web 2.0 bring us back to SMS age ! I don't call it evolution, but regression. I know, a lot of people misses good old time but it's not a reason. And don't come and tell me "Well but we can't afford all that storage". If can't afford that, don't do anything. So here comes the list of "Vintage good old Web pre-1.0" websites. I'll add more as I found more : * [[http://www.facebook.com/]] * [[http://www.lematin.ch/]] ===== UBS vs USA ===== ==== Anglais ==== As a Swiss citizen I'm aware to what happen to our bank, UBS. I think the US government made a great move against UBS. This is really clever. The new US government has to handle it's country in a miserable state. Almost eight years of wars and too liberal economy have brought down the country. This new government has made promise during the past election, so now it needs to keep it (or some). But in order to achieve this work, it has to find money (as we say "it takes money to make money"). In the other hand you have one of the biggest bank in the world. It has problems, it lives in country not well perceived because it's bank secrecy and finally as big bank it surely has something to hide (as everybody (expect me and my monkey)). The first thing to do was to break up the Swiss secrecy. They knew it would be easy. "Give us two or three names, and we're ok". It was going to work, the bank and the Swiss government would have been so happy to close this as quick as possible that they didn't even think, they just say ok. The next thing was to ask for more. They have shown that the secrecy is breakable, so they're putting pressure on this, helped by others countries. They're trying to get as much as possible out of UBS, because they need money and they don't mind if Switzerland would die in a bankrupt. They want Swiss Franc to get back from a war that brought death and bankrupt, whatever the price is. So I think we'll have hard time to come because of some managers who never understood a word of what they say and that we should have hang up on the Federal square.
